good morning,
colleagues and friends of the
institutions gathering here today.
It is a great pleasure for me to represent our Director, Professor Jose
Luhan,
in this opening session of the
workshop on intelligent digitalization of Agriculture
in the Mediterranean.
Welcome to the University of Murcia,
especially those researchers and companies representatives coming
from the different collaborating institutions from Tunisia,
Algeria, Greece, Turkey and also Spain.
Joining me in this act are Dr
Isabel Fora,
general Director of Research and Universities of the Regional Government,
Doctor Juan Jose
Alarcon,
director of the
Institute, and Doctor Antonio Flores, dean of the Faculty of Computer Sciences.
Welcome to all of you to our opening session.
And now I will pass the floor to our dean Doctor
Antonio Flores. Thank you.
The, uh,
director of research and I and
and universities. Uh, vice Chancellor of the University of M
director of,
uh, all attendees are in here today.
First of all, I would like to say on my behalf and on the faculty of I t.
Um,
it's a pleasure for us to host this workshop,
and we're going to present the results of three international of three projects.
Uh, some of them internationals in the agricultural sector. The digitalization
of our society moves forward very, very fast
when the fourth Industrial Revolution is on its way and
the sector is important as agriculture cannot be left behind.
With the trans in digital transformation of agriculture,
we look for a more sustainable,
economically, environmentally and socially sustainable sector.
This workshop is a way to transfer knowledge from the university
and research centres to the society. I'm very happy to see that very
that, um,
research groups are looking for solutions for the
problems that we face on a daily basis.
Without further ado,
I'd like to welcome all of you and I hope
you enjoy the fruitful workshop we have ahead of us.
So now it's the turn of Juan
Jose,
the director of the
Good Morning everybody.
It's a pleasure for me to be here today in this
opening session with the dean of the computer science Faculty,
vice Chancellor of research at the University of
and our Director General
as well.
I
believe
that we don't need to take too long because the
important thing today is to start the workshop as such,
I would like to highlight as the Dean mentioned
that the topic to be dealt with today is of maximum importance for the region of
Murcia
and in general terms for
the whole Mediterranean area.
And I'm very thankful for the efforts made by the coordinators
of the three projects that are going to be presented today.
Watered
me
and Berries
that obviously,
uh um that have worked. Uh, very It's very hard for this, uh, workshop to be held.
I would like to
highlight as well. The fact that these projects
have too have been coordinated by
researchers from the
institute and one from a researcher from the university of.
But there's
a very good integration between the two institutions,
and this shows that,
um
together we're stronger.
And we have, uh, more power when getting a positive results.
And that's it. And we, uh, have a very interesting workshop ahead of us.
We'll have the opportunity to hear the,
uh,
business sector to listen to some projects that are
going to help develop this kind of research work.
And even later we'll have the Director General of prima.
That is going to be very interesting to see how this kind of
research work
can have. Um its presence and be important for all of us. Like the Prime
International call. Thank you very much.
And now is the
Thank you.
Good morning. First of all, I'd like to thank you for the invitation,
Uh, to the University of
Institute. For me, it's a pleasure to be able to
see the results of three research projects that are pioneering and
very important for the agri food staff sector for our region.
It is very interesting.
I am very proud to see that our researchers, our research groups in the region of
Murcia,
can set up consortia with other institutions from other
countries with companies in order to to participate in
increasingly competitive calls
and to have a return in funding in the region of
MIA.
This is what we want to promote and as
regional government or a member of the regional government.
I want to support these excellence groups that may compete in this kind of call
the agrifood staffs sector is we all know that
it's very important for a region regarding R and D
in talking about figures, we have over 1000 companies in this sector.
More than 9000 million of the turn over 30,000 people working in this sector.
So for the region,
any kind of result that may be applied in practical terms is very important.
R and D is key in this sector
and that is why
it is a driving engine of the initiative
is four
that
will be mentioned by one of my colleagues.
It is a driving engine within this strategy, the agrifood
sector. This will enable us to have different funding from the European
Social Fund
and different calls from the Director General, the Seneca Foundation,
the Institute for the Promotion of the Industry in the region of Murcia.
I would like to mention an initiative that is a reality now and that
all of us here are very proud of the complementary plans where the region,
thanks to the work of all
all of us, the government and all the institutions working in the agrifood
sector,
we have funds, we coordinate a plan.
We have contributed €3 million the regional
government and we have received €5 million from
funds in a very competitive way.
Thanks to the effort made by all of us,
we have drafted a road map to see where we want what we want to achieve
and where we want to go and
all
are taking part.
It is scientifically driven by
Sivas
Institute and
the University of Murcia is participating in the Technical University of
Cara,
the Catholic University of San Antonio.
The
many institutions
and I think that this complementary programme is going to be
very strong and what we want is companies to join in
grow food associations,
platforms and we want this knowledge transfer to be a reality.
This is where we all work for from our own disciplines.
And we thought further Do I wish you a fruitful workshop?
I would like more ideas for more projects, more papers
for knowledge, for transfer of knowledge
and that's it. Thank you very much
here.
So it's my last turn and I am really very proud to represent the university of
which is a teaching and research institution
that is dedicated to finding solutions to
big challenges and to preparing our students for leadership in a complex world.
So the University of Murcia has joined the European Alliance of Universities uni
well,
that has a core mission to understand,
improve measure and rebalance the well-being of individuals,
our own community and society as a whole based on our joint values, democratic,
inclusive, diverse research and challenge based inter
trans disciplinary, entrepreneurial
and co creation.
All of this is completely aligned with the vision
of prima foundation that supports science to create inclusive,
healthy and prosperous Mediterranean societies
through innovative solutions in agrifood and
water systems that contribute to the sustainable use of natural resources,
economic growth and stability.
This workshop is an excellent example to show
the results of three very interesting projects which represent
sorry, an advanced
coronavirus viruses.
I'm sorry
and
thank you.
It's a side effect after passing the the disease. I'm sorry.
So this workshop is an excellent example to
show the results of three very interesting projects
which represent an advance in knowledge in the
fields of water and agriculture in the Mediterranean
and which are also an example of research policy
alignment at the European national and regional levels.
Water met 4.0 has been financed by prima and coordinated by the university,
has developed an integrated decision support system based on Internet of
themes for the management of the entire agricultural water cycle,
monitoring of water resources and water demands,
including the measurement of economic, energy,
social and governance factor influencing water use
efficiency in Mediterranean agricultural production areas.
The second project, pre
financed by prima also and coordinated by the
six,
has focused on optimising the such community of
agriculture through the use of precision irrigation techniques
and the adoption and application of new water and nutrient management practises,
integrating knowledge of fertilisers, irrigation and water management with i CD.
The third one, Berries 4.0,
has been funded by a programme included in
the smart specialisation strategy of the Region of Murcia
and coordinated also by
it aims to develop a comprehensive management and control
system for the sustainable cultivation of blueberries in greenhouses.
This project provides innovative solutions and future alternatives
that will help to boost the agricultural sector in
Murcia.
With thanks to the European Commission, Prima Foundation,
the Ministry of Science and Innovation, the regional government,
all the other funding agencies,
the different companies and institutions that collaborate to support
the type of research we are presenting here today.
This is a great example on how cooperation can lead us and take us very, very far away.
So for our visitors I am very pleased to welcome you to the city
and the University of
Murcia.
Consider that you are at home and I wish all of you every success,
